Communication and Government Affairs Manager
The Communication & Government Affairs Manager will be a key contributor to our Communications & Public Affairs Team, directly reporting to the Head of Government Affairs. The Communication & Government Affairs Manager will, at the same time, have a dotted reporting line to Nel’s Vice President of Research and Development, who is based in Wallingford, Connecticut. The location is flexible with a preference for candidates from the East Coast with proximity to Washington D.C. and Connecticut.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
- Responsible for Nel’s Communication & Government Affairs activities in the US
- Plan and execute Nel’s media and public affairs activities in the US
- Support Nel in gaining access to funding opportunities in the US
- Build relations and maintain a network of political stakeholders and civil society in the US to assist Nel in fulfilling strategic objectives
- Nurture relationships with key media outlets in Connecticut, Michigan and DC to enhance Nel’s reputation at a local and national level, ensure license to operate in key states and deliver Nel’s key messages
- Ensure internal awareness of potential key policy influencers and messaging trends related to US hydrogen implementation and coordinate Nel’s responses to Congress, Senate and relevant agencies as needed
- Provide support to Nel’s Head of Communications, and Vice President of Research and Development, and other US-based leaders with internal and external communication activities, such as stakeholder meetings and media interviews
- Develop and carry out communication plans for important projects and support the team and other local leaders in the execution of these plans
- Ensure and contribute to knowledge sharing, best practices, and collaboration across Nel’s Global Communications and Public Affairs Team
Key Qualifications
- Relevant educational background, preferably at Master level, within social sciences and or media & communication
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with journalism, political organizations, or as a communication advisor/consultant in a commercial company and/or a PR agency
- Excellent writing skills and a good understanding of policy making & communication strategies
- Good understanding of the overall energy landscape and deep knowledge of the US system and the relevant policy making and funding landscape in the US
