HR Manager
We are looking for a confident HR Manager who can act as a trusted partner to both employees and managers in a complex operational environment.
Nel is seeking an HR Manager to support both its business and people in a complex, operational environment. Based at the Herøya office, this position forms part of the global HR team and involves close collaboration with colleagues in the local operations team. The HR Manager serves as a trusted partner to the organisation, expertly balancing local operational responsibilities with contributions to global HR initiatives.
As a member of Nel’s global HR organisation, the HR Manager will play an integral role in advancing the company’s ongoing development towards more mature, efficient, and digitally enabled HR practices.
Role description
The HR Manager oversees specific HR functions and is responsible for day-to-day HR operations, policy implementation, and the handling of complex employee relations and staffing matters. The role requires solid experience with unions, in-depth knowledge of Norwegian collective agreements (tariffavtaler), and strong negotiation skills. In addition to managing local HR responsibilities, the role participates in global projects and cross‑functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day HR operations and ensure compliance with local labour laws and collective agreements “tariffavtaler”.
Act as the primary HR contact for union representatives, leading negotiations and maintaining constructive relationships.
Handle complex employee relations matters.
Provide HR guidance, tools, and systems as an integral member of the local management team, serving as a trusted advisor.
Drive organisational development and performance improvement through effective HR practices data-driven and digital solutions.
Drive and participate in global HR projects and collaborate with international colleagues.
Maintain a regular on-site presence at the Herøya and frequent visits to our Notodden facilities.
Key qualifications
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
5–7 years of experience in an HR management role, including direct work with unions and collective agreements (preferably within manufacturing or industrial environments)
Strong knowledge of Norwegian labour law, collective union agreements, and negotiation processes
Fluent in Norwegian and English, both written and spoken
Tech-savvy and comfortable using digital HR systems and tools
