Nel Hydrogen is looking for a motivated and skilled Software Automation Engineer to strengthen our capacity within software products for hydrogen production. In this role, you will work across projects and products, contributing to the development, delivery, and commissioning of hydrogen production control systems. The position can be located in Kristiansand (preferred) or Notodden.

Your new role

As a Software Automation Engineer at Nel Hydrogen, you will contribute to the development of control systems for our hydrogen production systems. You will work closely with electrical, control, and project teams, supporting the full lifecycle from development and testing to delivery and commissioning.

You will be part of multidisciplinary teams across locations and projects, contributing both from the office and, when needed, during commissioning activities in the field or remotely.

Your responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Develop, optimize, and test software products and features

• Program PLC control systems, primarily using Siemens TIA Portal

• Contribute to project and product delivery for hydrogen production control systems

• Support commissioning activities in the field or remotely

• Create, update, and maintain technical documentation

What we are looking for

We are looking for a structured and proactive Software Automation Engineer who enjoys working hands-on with industrial software and collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

You bring with you:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Cybernetics, Mechatronics, Automation, or similar). Relevant experience may compensate for formal education

• Relevant experience with commercial products or plant design is an advantage

• Experience with control system programming; experience with Siemens systems is an advantage

• Good written and verbal communication skills in English (Norwegian skills are an advantage)

• A structured and systematic way of working

• A proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem solving

• The ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and locations

• A practical, hands-on mindset with a focus on quality and safety

• A strong safety-first attitude
